Rocklands is a vast climbing area spread across the Cederberg, with climbing generally divided between the Pass and the Valley. The Pass is the higher, more mountainous area around Pakhuis Pass, and includes many of the original and most famous bouldering sectors, such as Roadside, Rhino Boulders, The Bastille, Fortress, 8 Day Rain and Sassies. There is also excellent sport climbing scattered among the boulders and crags here, including sectors like Wild West Wall, Cedar Rouge, The Island and Biscuit Wall.
Down in the Valley, the climbing is more spread out across the surrounding farms and valleys, with countless boulders and sectors to explore. Classic areas include Arch Valley, The Coop, Danger Zone, Eland Camp and Kleinfontein, as well as the boulders around the Kliphuis campsite. The Valley tends to feel a little more remote and exploratory, while the Pass has a higher concentration of well-known sectors.
Together, the Pass and Valley offer an enormous variety of climbing, from technical slabs and crimpy faces to steep roofs, compression, powerful problems and famous dynos. There is something for almost every style and grade, and part of the appeal of Rocklands is simply exploring the landscape and discovering new pockets of climbing.
